Celebrating the Humanities

On May 20th, Michelle Olson (VFH Board Member), her husband Chris and parents Fred and Marlene Malek hosted a fabulous event at her home in McLean celebrating the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.

More than 200 people, mostly from Northern Virginia, enjoyed an interactive Encyclopedia Virginia exhibit as well as an array of Virginia Folklife artists including the Northern Neck Chantey Singers, the Whitetop Mountain Band, Caribbean Carnival costume makers, Mongolian mask makers, Guatemalan sawdust carpet artists at work, a display of hot rod cars, a performance by a Virginia Indian dance troop, and much more.

Virginia Folklife Program Director and Virginia State Folklorist, Jon Lohman emcee’d the entertainment and guests enjoyed homemade Brunswick stew direct from Brunswick, Virginia.

VFH is incredibly grateful to Michelle and her family for hosting this wonderful event that introduced so many in Northern Virginia to the wonders of VFH.
