Daphne Maxwell Reid (Virginia State University) is perhaps best known for her role as Aunt Viv in the popular 90’s television show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starring Will Smith. But before Daphne was an actress, she was a number of “firsts,” including the first African American homecoming queen at Northwestern University and the first African American woman to appear on the cover of Glamour magazine. She says although she’s had a lifetime of breaking barriers, it wasn’t intentional.

Also featured: With television shows like “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” and “Restaurant Impossible,” the last five years has seen a proliferation of programs devoted to restaurants. But what’s not often shown is that working in a restaurant is an almost seven-day-a-week job and that the profit margins can be wafer thin. Eric Breckoff (J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College)is a culinary arts instructor. He tells his students that success depends as much on accounting skills as it does on culinary chops.
