Senior Producer, Backstory
The Senior Producer of Backstory supervises the staff, sets the production schedule, identifies opportunities and partnerships, and oversees the outcomes and outreach of a popular weekly podcast program produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
The Senior Producer provides a vision for BackStory’s future as one of the top history podcasts in the field, has deep knowledge of podcast production and editing, and has demonstrated experience managing and producing high quality audio in a deadline-driven setting.
The Senior Producer will acquire a working knowledge of the VFH, its programs, University systems, and will operate effectively in public and academic settings.
VFH offers the dynamic work environment and a wide array of programming: the Virginia Festival of the Book, the weekly public radio show “With Good Reason,” the online Encyclopedia Virginia, international Fellowships, among other programs.

Associate Producer, With Good Reason
Associate Producer, With Good Reason, assists in the creation of a weekly, statewide public radio program produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. The associate producer assists the Host/Producer of With Good Reason producing radio and maintaining a partnership with various stakeholders including the Virginia Higher Education Broadcasting Consortium.
Principal responsibilities of this position include acting in support of the Host/Producer by researching, planning, and ensuring the appeal and production values of a weekly hour-long radio program that is broadcast on public radio stations throughout Virginia, that reaches into neighboring states, and that is available by podcast via the web. Additional responsibilities include the periodic preparation of frequent companion news features, WGR e-newsletters, posting shows, and administrative responsibilities that accompany production.
Editorial Assistant, Encyclopedia Virginia
The Editorial Production Assistant, Encyclopedia Virginia manages the development and publication of primary resource content for the Encyclopedia, working closely with the Encyclopedia’s staff to produce accurate transcriptions of primary resource content that enhance the context and narratives of Encyclopedia entries.
The Editorial Production Assistant helps to select resources that will be digitized; transcribes and proofreads those resources against original or other materials; acquires digital facsimiles of those originals to complement the transcriptions; and manages the workflow of each resource from its selection to its initial publication online. This position will also be responsible for converting Encyclopedia entries into a format compatible for online publication. This position reports to the Director of Encyclopedia Virginia and will have additional responsibilities related to audio production. Audio duties will include studio recording, field recording and audio post-production.
