FloydFest: Virginia Folklife Workshop Porch

Folklife Program

Special thanks to Virginia is for Lovers and the Virginia Tourism Corporation for their support of this stage.

Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, FloydFest sits in the veritable hot bed of traditional mountain music. The Virginia Folklife Porch is the place to see and hear the finest practitioners of these traditional music styles.Presented by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities in partnership with Blue Cow Arts, the Virginia Folklife Workshop Porch (lovingly referred to by most simply as “the Porch”) has become one of the true gems of FloydFest.

Hosted by Virginia State Folklorist Jon Lohman, the Porch showcases the finest in regional music styles, including bluegrass, old time, mountain gospel, and blues. At the same time, the Porch is also home to the beloved workshops where FloydFest audiences get to visit with some of the headline artists in a more intimate, relaxed setting while sitting back, sharing stories, and playing whatever they feel.

FloydFest 11 promises to be a simply epic year on the Porch, with return visits from some of our favorite artists over the years, including Sam Bush, Whitetop Mountain Band, Morwenna Lasko and Jay Pun, and countless others. We are also excited to welcome new folks for their Porch debuts, including the indomitable Chris Thile, Ricky Skaggs, Drew Emmitt, Leftover Salmon, and Gary Clark Jr.!
