The Virginia Arts of the Book Center will hold its eighth annual Raucous Auction on Friday, November 9 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at 2125 Ivy Road in Charlottesville. The evening will include a live auction, silent auction, food, drinks, and festivities. In addition to the dozens of hand-made books, prints, etchings, and other pieces of art by local printers, featured items include a number of works of professional framed art by Creative Framing, a class at UVa’s Rare Book School, and a week in an apartment in Paris.
The VABC will reveal its Atlas of Vanishing Knowledge, a limited-edition artist’s book, part-reference work and in part-commonplace book for a disappearing world. The Atlas is the result of an extensive collaboration between member writers and book artists, and will be available in a “reverse auction” format, where the price drops incrementally for every additional bidder.
The VABC will be accessible through the Creative Framing/The Art Box entrance, which will keep extended hours until 8 p.m. A donation or purchase is suggested at this benefit event for the VABC.
Here’s a small sample of what will be available at the auction. More samples here.
