Send a Check

Mailing a check is perhaps the most familiar way to make your gift to VFH.

If you are making a gift to the Annual Fund, please make your check payable to “Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.”  If you are making a gift designated to another purpose, please make your check payable to “Virginia Foundation for the Humanities” and indicate to which program you are designating your gift.  In addition, please let us know if this is a payment toward an existing pledge.

Stock Transfer

Donors who give stock to VFH avoid capital gains tax on appreciated securities. Stock is best transferred to the Foundation, and not sold by the donor.

To assure timely and accurate transfer, please have your broker contact Davenport & Co. to alert them of pending transfers.

  1. Please contact the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities to let us know of your gift. Electronic transfers will not automatically carry the name of the donor, therefore it is necessary for the VFH to know the name of the donor, the type of security, and the number of shares. We will monitor our account and inform you when the transfer has been received. Indicate the purpose of the contribution—such as an annual gift or funds for a specific program.
  2. Depository Trust Company, or DTC, is the clearinghouse for electronic security transfers.
  3. Provide the following information to the transferring broker:

    Account Name: Virginia Foundation for the Humanities
    Account Number: 8586-8137
    DTC Number: 715
    Clearing Broker: Davenport and Co.
    Reference: [Donor’s name]

Electronic Funds Transfer

By setting up an electronic funds transfer (EFT), you can choose the amount that is automatically deducted from your checking or savings account at a frequency and duration of your choice (i.e. $20 a month for one year, or $100 quarterly, etc.)

Your electronic funds transfer (EFT) allows VFH to charge your bank account for your gift, just as if you personally signed the check or used a debit card. Consider the benefits:

  • No more writing and mailing checks
  • Plans are flexible
  • The withdrawal will show up on your bank statement
  • All information is secure and confidential
  • Renew your gift each year with ease

To Make Your Gift via Electronic Funds Transfer:

  • Fully complete Automatic Bank Draft form
  • Be sure to sign the form
  • If your gifts will come from a checking account, please enclose a voided check
  • If your gifts will come from a savings account, include the bank routing number and your savings account number
