In 2021, the Coastal Virginia chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting a quarterly series of 1-hour virtual community education programs to increase awareness of blood diversity challenges and health disparities in our African American community.

In this edition they discuss the outstanding life and legacy of Dr. Charles R. Drew.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Charlene Drew Jarvis, Neuroscientist, Legislator, and University President (retired)
  • Sylvia Drew Ivie, J.D., Special Assistant to the President at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science
  • Dr. Yvette Miller, Executive Medical Officer at American Red Cross

This program is made possible in part by a “Beneath the Surface” grant. Beneath the Surface is a partnership between Virginia Humanities and the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.

Our work brings people together and honors our shared humanity.
