The Marietta McNeill Morgan & Samuel Tate Morgan, Jr. Trust recently awarded Virginia Humanities $50,000 for the completion of the Claude Moore Media Center. The Morgan Trust, administered by the Bank of America Private Bank, was established to promote education and human services for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“We recognize the power of the humanities to connect us in vital ways, which is why we regularly invest in capital projects that will build a stronger platform for this work today and tomorrow,” said Lee Parker, Senior Vice President and Philanthropic Client Manager at Bank of America Private Bank.

Initial construction costs for The Claude Moore Media Center were covered by a grant from the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation (CMCF). The CMCF grant funded two recording studios, a control room, and office space for radio/podcast producers. The Morgan grant will cover the soundproofing of the recording studios and sound design equipment for the control room. Currently, the Claude Moore Media Center is home to the award-winning radio show and podcast With Good Reason. Plans are underway to increase media production once the center is completed.

The Claude Moore Media Center will expand Virginia Humanities’ digital presence, building on the organization’s mission of inclusion and accessibility. Expanding the ability to create digital media increases community access by providing a platform for people to tell their own stories through enhanced oral history projects, musical recordings, and podcast production. Additionally, the digital media facilities will help Virginia Humanities create more educational opportunities including grant writing webinars, talks with authors, and other special events. In this way, the completion of the Claude Moore Media Center will play a crucial role in Virginia Humanities’ ability to engage its audience with quality content that accurately documents Virginia’s deep and diverse history. The Claude Moore Media Center will be open by Summer 2022.  Along with the Morgan Trust and CMCF, the Claude Moore Media Center was made possible through the generous support of Ginger Geoffrey, John Andelin, and an anonymous donor.

Our work brings people together and honors our shared humanity.
