During her life, Flory Jagoda was known as the “Keeper of the Flame” of Sephardic music. A National Heritage Fellow, Flory passed along this traditional Jewish music, sung in Ladino, to Susan Gaeta through an apprenticeship in our Virginia Folklife Program. Susan in turn passed it along to apprentice Gina Sobel.

Now Susan and Gina have formed a new group called Minnush that’s keeping Sephardic music alive by infusing it with jazz, funk, and folk music. Minnush includes Susan Gaeta, Gina Sobel, Trevor Pietsch, and Kevin Johnson.

You can support the preservation of this musical tradition by making a gift to the Flory Jagoda Fund.
