Peter Hedlund is Senior Director of Programs and Education at Virginia Humanities, overseeing programs including Encyclopedia Virginia, the Virginia Center for the Book and education and community outreach initiatives. He received a master’s degree in Slavic Literature from the University of Virginia. He later joined UVA’s New Media Center, collaborating with faculty across disciplines to integrate emerging technologies into research and teaching. He has also consulted for international cultural heritage organizations on how to effectively use digital tools to further their missions. In 2008, Hedlund became Encyclopedia Virginia‘s lead technologist, instrumental in its launch and technological innovation. He was named director in 2017, leading strategy, fundraising, and editorial direction. Hedlund is committed to digital innovation, public humanities, and inclusive storytelling across Virginia Humanities’ programs.
