As the associate director of Community Initiatives, Yahusef Medina leads the Virginia Humanities internship program, HBCU scholars fellowship, and helps with the strategic development of various community efforts that seek to highlight historically underrepresented voices throughout the commonwealth of Virginia. He is also a board member of Canary Academy Online and serves on Virginia’s state Latino Advisory Board.

Yahusef previously worked at Richmond Public Schools (RPS), where he was instrumental in designing and implementing division-wide community engagement efforts and co-founded the RPS Latin American Identity Task Force. He also served extensively in the juvenile justice system as a re-entry specialist creating education, workforce, and life skills programming for youth throughout New York State. Yahusef has numerous presentations and speaking engagements to his credit centered on equity & inclusion, community service, and Afro-Latinidad. Habla espaƱol
