We’re excited to co-sponsor the 5th Anniversary Afrikana Independent Film Festival, September 17-20! This year’s all-virtual Afrikana experience remains a space that celebrates, elevates, and further validates Black stories, Black voices, and Black lives. The film festival showcases the cinematic works of people of color from around the world, with a special focus on global Black narratives. Afrikana’s mission is to present high-quality, well-crafted stories that highlight the diaspora and encourage people to connect.

Explore the festival’s on-demand catalog here or buy tickets.

On Saturday, September 19th at 10am, don’t miss Virginia Humanities director of Community Initiatives, Justin Reid, as he moderates a filmmaker talkback entitled “ISO” (In Search Of). He’ll be joined by three talented filmmakers, including Richmond native and Norfolk State University graduate Nile Price, for conversation on the meaning of home.

Our work brings people together and honors our shared humanity.
