The weekend of events will begin as Patrick Henry will reenact his famous ‘Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death’ speech of March 23, 1775 on the front steps of historic Ker Place on Friday October 9th at 5:30 pm.
Following, we invite you into Ker Place for a reception to meet Mr. Henry and view Give Me Liberty: Virginia & The Forging of a Nation, an exhibit on loan from The Virginia Museum of History and Culture. Enjoy the evening with friends enjoying history within the walls of Ker Place circa 1799. The trio Ampersand, will perform music that honors the 250th commemoration of the Declaration of Independence featuring songs and tunes of the new nation. Refreshments will be available. The VA250 Mobile Museum ‘Out of Many, One’ will be open for tours both Friday and Saturday.
On Saturday October 10 from 10am-4pm, Shore History will be offering a day of activities, Revolutionary War reenactors, Indigenous tribes with history and artifacts and virtual demonstrations of traditional crafts including blacksmithing among others. There will be tours of Ker Place either docent led or self-guided using our app. There are several exhibits honoring the 250th including ‘Faces of the Revolution.’
This event is Free and open to all. Visit https://www.shorehistory.org/ for a complete schedule of events and any updates. There is free parking in downtown Onancock in public lots and on the street. Ker Place is in the heart of Onancock at 69 Market Street. Food and beverages will be available on site. The grounds are level and the museum is ADA accessible on the first floor.
